This is a (highly experimental) episode that features three audio charms (or “sound sigils” as Cory calls them). They incorporate traditional materials but also some fairly out-there stuff, too. If you have audio sensory issues, we won’t blame you for skipping this one. Otherwise, we hope you enjoy this practical dive into “sensory witchcraft!”
Sources come mostly from Cory’s personal experiences, but you can read a bit about the Essene Blessing Walk here, and you should definitely check out Gemma Gary’s The Charmer’s Psalter, which Cory uses a lot for his Psalm-based charms.
Promos & Music
Intro music is “Grifos Muertos” by Jeffery Luck Lucas, from his album What We Whisper, used under license from Magnatune.com
Incidental music used through Creative Commons license on SoundCloud or licensed from Magnatune.com.
Sound effects are sourced from Creative Commons licensed recordings at Sound Bible.
Laine and Cory discuss the role of the standard “five senses” within their witchraft, as well as how impairment or differences in those senses can inform or change our magical practice. We talk about incense, rune cookies, sensory deprivation, BDSM (this one may not be one for the youngsters!), and audio spellcasting.
Please check out our Patreon page! You can help support the show for as little as a dollar a month, and get some awesome rewards at the same time. Even if you can’t give, spread the word and let others know, and maybe we can make New World Witchery even better than it is now.
Cory recommend’s listening to Scarlet’s “Sonic Ritual” episode of Lakefront Pagan Voice. You may also want to check out Laura Tempest Zakroff’s site for info on dancing and magic.
Cory briefly mentions an album of Scottish folk charms, which is called “Tales of the Taibhsear.” Checking out the Kickstarter page for that project will tell you more about it.
Cory mentions the “honey” ritual in Jewish traditions, which is called “upsherin,” and which he learned about from his colleague Amy Milligan’s article on the ritual in the Children’s Folklore Review.

We bring you (or actually, YOU bring you) the second edition of our Audio Spellbook. This one is focused on the idea of “Everyday Magic,” which you can do using simple, common ingredients or tools. We have a nice set of spells for you covering everything from protecting you while you drive to helping to pay off overdue bills and finding things that are lost. Plus we finish with a funny little story of Appalachian witchcraft gone awry. Enjoy!

It’s been a while since we’ve done a contest, so let’s do one now! We mentioned it in our first February episode, but this post will give you all the nitty-gritty details. Basically, we want to do a second round of our Audio Spellbook, so all you have to do is send us the sound of *you* describing your favorite spell which uses everyday ingredients (things you could find in a spice cabinet, grocery store, or backyard, for example). You can check out Episode 88 – Everyday Magic or any of these posts to get an idea of what we mean:
You can either record your spell and email it to us (in .mp3 or .wav format, please) at compassandkey@gmail.com or call us and leave us a voice mail on our official NWW hotline: (442) 999-4824 (that’s 442-99-WITCH, if it helps). You can also get extra entries (one each) by sharing either our Patreon page or this Contest Announcement via your favorite social media (make sure to tag us or get a screen capture you can email to us). Make sure we have your email address so we can contact you if you win. Also, please let us know what name you want us to use when sharing your audio spell (and announcing your name if you win).

What will you be entered to get? We’re giving away one of our New World Witchery Annual Mailers, the same one we sent out to this year’s Patreon patrons, which includes:
A brand-new, highly exclusive New World Witchery t-shirt
A handmade bottle of magical condition oil or mojo bag
A pair of quite fancy coasters upon which you can rest beverages of choice while listening to your favorite podcasts
I may throw in another item or two, as well. The picture above gives you a pretty good idea what it looks like. In addition to the mailer, I’m also throwing in a couple of books from previous, current, and future guests:
